During this week I was asked to help with an assignment in which us interns would create a banner for a 3-D model of a flag! I helped create a variety of flag graphics that realistically all helped bring awareness to the possible misuse of XR, VR, AR as while the technology is rudimentary at the moment it does not mean it cannot become an issue in the future. Mr Jay Van Buren is involved with an organization known as the XR Guild which is meant to act basically in the best interest of those pursing the technology of XR, VR, AR while also being used ethically, which leads me to the journal entries of this blog.
1. The way Membit gathers models to use in their app is through finding any sort of CC licensed model in a site known as Vecterly using these allows us to showcase these models without having to create them ourselves as it would take a while to do so and slow down the over creation of Membits. It also helps utilize the amount of items that people have already made with the intent to create to share! See with the large amount of advancements in technology we have seen a larger sense of theft through AI which has and will continue to cause both the Visual Arts world and Technology world to shake and clash in ways that are not yet known. Using CC Licensed models allows us to create AR environments without having to question if we’re stealing therefore making them ETHICALLY sourced!
2. While I have not read the readings using the CC Licensed models have truly opened my eyes the morality not just in myself but how I view the process of anything! Beforehand in other classes I have made mock-ups of books and the like however I never really thought much about how I obtained the blanks as they were just for classwork and the thought never seemed to cross my mind. However now that I was basically doing so for a real company the reality hit me that everything has to be done right and ethically because if not it’s not just a bad day for PR but could also be reflected back on me as a lazy and unethical designer. Suddenly everything from class and what previous professors had told me was coming back to me.
