Introduction
Hello and welcome to my e-portfolio! My name is Alexa Agosto, I am 25 years old and I am in my second and final year of dental hygiene school. I am from Brooklyn, New York, where if you want to be successful, you must work extremely hard for it. Growing up I’ve always known that there is absolutely nothing in this world that can stop me from implementing goals and meeting them.
Growing up, I use to be the girl that was always helping others. And so, every time someone would ask me what I’d want to be when I grow up, I’d always say I want to save lives and help people. When I was 17 I enrolled into college to be an aspiring registered nurse. I took pre-requisites for nursing and in about a year I took the TEAS V nursing exam. However, when applying to the program, other candidates were accepted into my place. I became frustrated and thought of questions, such as, “why not me, am I not good enough?” Yet, that’s when it hit me that I wasn’t made to be a nurse, I was made for something much greater. In 2017, I applied for the dental hygiene program because I knew that I wanted to promote health and prevent disease. Initially, the transition of being in a hands on clinical environment, scared me. I wondered if I would be able to handle such intense courses. Nonetheless, here I am today, soon to be a registered dental hygienist. All through the sweat, tears, emotional rollercoasters, hardwork and dedication, I was able to accomplish greatness.
My passion for dentistry, has grown significantly throughout this program. I have learned to become an oral healthcare professional. I am still able to help others, provide the importance of oral health care and give patients instructions on how to prevent oral disease. As of today, my main goal is to create beautiful smiles, and have every one of my patients leave the dental chair with knowledge about their oral health and how to improve it. I also want to make sure they feel absolutely satisfied at each and every appointment by providing excellent patient management and care.
