Patchy Sky

image

Denise A, March 17, 2014

Taken on the corner of Willoughby Avenue and Marcus Garvey Boulevard in Brooklyn, NY, the moon stood whole and bright in the sky in the center of this photo. My camera was unable to capture the moon in it’s complete form but the light it produced did justice. There is a street light right outside if the photo’s frame that providing an orange hue on the left side. It’s rare that I see clouds and a full moon in an interesting setting, such as this one, so I had to take a photo. The clouds further away from the moon seemed patchy, as if they’ve broken away from each other. But the clouds closer to the moon seemed as if they were more connected. This photo looks like it could be apart of a dream yet is very realistic and somewhat gloomy. And the buildings and how they’re shaped raises the reality effect tremendously.

Josue L. Pierre, March 15, 2014

This photo was taken March 15, 2014. This was taken at my house.I see a microwave which has an oval shaped black cover on it. I see a sink next. I only see the corner of the stove, the rest of it is missing. I see large cabinets and half of a small cabinet. I see a trash can and right behind it is a door that’s brings you to the backyard. Most of these objects are rectangles. I see eating utensils on top of the microwave. I also see a red, orange light that brightens mostly the cabinet and the microwave. I see eating utensils on top of the microwave. I took this photo because the light represents the main focus which is the microwave and the cabinet. We don’t use anything that is placed in the shadows. We just use the Microwave and the Cabinets.

Nothing But Clutter

Basement Room, Josue L. Pierre, March 23, 2014

This photo was taken at night in my basement. In the basement, we happen to have a room, but we only use it for clothing. So I took the opportunity to take a picture.  In this photo, the lighting is amazingly bright. I see a brown blanket on the right side with flower patterns on it. I see a laptop on top of it. There is nothing but cloths that takes up most of the photo. I also see loose leaf papers and paper towels. Taking up most of the bottom left corner is a book bag opened and full of books in it. And all of these objects are on top of whats left of a bed. The reason why this photo was taken was the lighting was able to get every single object inside the room, unlike other photos that were taken before. The main focus are all the things in there that had nothing to do with clothing. Because the room is meant only for cloths.

The Statue Of Christopher Columbus

cul

I took this photo in  dawn-town Brooklyn. When i look at the statue i can see that the picture was taken in the middle of the day, yet there is about five people  around.  And their is court building. I think this photo is  a strong photo, because its have a clear  subject .subject should dominate the image and form the viewer’s first impression. If the subject is strong, the viewer’s eyes may move to explore other areas of the image, but the eyes are drawn inevitably back to the subject.

The 6’oclock crescent , 2014, Ciera Haigler

The-6oclock-crescent-1024x576

I took this photo on the evening of March 3, 2014, I was looking out my window from my apartment in Brooklyn, snapping pictures of people and inanimate objects, it was getting dark and I noticed the moon was impending from the sky and I found this scenery to be captivating. I truly admire the distinguishing contrast between the sky and the trees because the colors seem contradictory but converging and the clouds look almost artificial, as if they are purple.  I was adamant towards the inclusion of the street lighting because I figured it threw the picture off, but I later appreciated the paradox it established. The frame excludes the busy street below, by passers, and the park in which the trees descended from.

Unadorned passion, 2014, Ciera Haigler

This photo was taken on the morning of June, 16, 2013 in my home in Brooklyn; I had just woken and I felt a persistent urge to get my idea on a canvas, I toke this photo less than midway into completing the final image in order to show my progression. What I find so intriguing about this photo is that this a very narrow and small part of my room and yet various things can be seen, the frame neglects the bed adjacent to the wooden palette, the guitar on the right, my library, and the wall next to the guitar that consist of assorted paintings I’ve completed in the past. I abstained from turning on the light because the sun acted in its place causing rows of sunrays to peer through the window, aside from what is seen in the room, the trees across the street are noticeable. The dominant impression the image emits is a placid demeanor, it reminds me of a passion that will never cease.

Morning Window

February 17,2014

This photo was taken, as I awake from my sleep, from my apartment window in Bronx, New York. In the picture there is nothing but darkness surrounding the window in the center of the photo. The photo was taken from an angle giving the entire image a tilt. A small resemblance of a  sunrise can be seen through the window, showing the color of a blue sky at top fading into faint orange color at the bottom. Two dark, cylinder figures are present in the corner of the windows. Blinders at the top of the window create tight black lines, while the bottom of the window only has a few black lines, spaced out, from the bars these windows have. It is noticeable that the window is cracked open a bit. The edges surrounding the window are in complete darkness.

Queens Sunset

February 24,2014

I took this picture standing on top of a roof of a 2 story house in Queens, NY. The picture is from a high prospective that is aligned with the top of the roofs of the houses in the picture. That is why you see the sun fading on the roofs of the houses. There are trees without leaves, in the center of the picture where the branches stretch out on the orange sky. Behind the tree there are 3 houses. In the picture there is a contrast of light. The top of the picture is more bright, while he bottom is more dark and gray. This is the highlight of the photo.

Brooklyn bridge, march 19, 2014, Cristian Calle

I took this photograph on march 19, 2014. This photo was taken from the Brooklyn side of the Brooklyn bridge. It was afternoon, the day was pretty cloudy and a little cold. Since I finished with my courses for that day, and I decided to take a walk at the Brooklyn bridge because it is close to the school. As it is shown in the photograph, the main focus is the Freedom Tower. There are some buildings  surrounding it, but the Freedom Tower stands above all overs . In the right side of the frame, there seems to be a part of the Brooklyn bridge cut.

Great Minds Think Alike

March 15, 2014, Josue L. Pierre

This photo was taken March 15, 2014. This was taken at my house. This was after everyone had fallen asleep. I was hungry so went to get some food. I see a microwave which has an oval shaped black cover on it. I took this photo because the light represents what I’m about to do. When I woke up to get food, I was going to open the large cabinets to get some utensils and then use the microwave to heat up my left overs. It seemed as if the light knew what I was planning to eat. At first it was a little scary, but then it looked pretty cool.
