Real Chinese Foods

Photo 01 Photo 02

These pictures were taken a week ago in my uncle’s house, while the whole family was throwing a party to celebrate one of the traditional Chinese festivals. I always want to write something about Chinese food culture, now I see my opportunity. China has a 3000-year-old splendid culinary culture. The real Chinese food will not only delight the taste buds but also the eyes. It is an art in itself. The two pictures I took show the true identity of Chinese food. The frame of the first picture shows the middle part of the dish, while the frame of the second picture shows the half right side of the dish. The reason I didn’t choose to frame the entire dishes is that I thought the pictures would have a more exquisite and mysterious look this way. In addition, I used DOF while taking these pictures. I was hoping to draw the viewer’s attention to the two dishes, and I’m quite satisfy with the result. Now they just stand out starkly against the blur background.

Time Stood Still

Time Stood Still

This photograph was taken about one week ago, in East New York of Brooklyn,NY. I chose to use this photo because it has a very unique look to it, as there is a mini van swiftly driving by. In the meanwhile, the rest of the entire photo seems to be at a complete standstill, and no activities present. Also, looking to the right of the mini van, there is only a civilian in the photo, facing towards the opposite direction, which portrays the dominant impression of suspense and loneliness. Even though this picture is very interesting, it also has a high reality effect because, when looking at the second window and the top of the frame, there is an orange glare on the window, and also the photo is not as bright as a sunny day, which indicates that the time of day is evening time. Similarly, the pro filmic event of the mini van driving by indicates that the reality effect is high. I find this photo to be perfect for my essay because there is just a large variety of ways that this photo can be read, and will compare really well with my other photo for this essay.

Emergency

Emergency

This photograph was also taken about one week ago, in front of Kings County Hospital Center in Flatbush of Brooklyn,NY. I find this picture very fascinating for numerous reasons. First of, a noticeable aspect of the photo, shows a lot going on at the bottom of the frame. Another aspect would be of course, that there are many different lights shining throughout the picture, which also points out the fact, that is not sunny outside. The reality effect can be seen in this picture because if you look carefully, it is still really difficult to read the words and letters that are on the building which is in the middle of the frame. This allows one to really know that while the picture was taken that the camera moved while the moment was being captured. The reality effect is really high in this photo. There are many other aspects of this photo that can be pointed out, and they will be when begin to compare it with my other photograph.

IMAG0230

This picture was taken near poly tech college building, I choose this picture because the different mood it gives off, take the colorful metal piece for example, and it gives a happy, cheerful feeling because of the multi-colors that are sprayed on the metal. On the other hand if you look on the floor or around it, you can see the dead leaf and dirt on the floor, so you can this get this little sad feeling from it. Also the other reason was that this caught my attention while I was walking home and I thought it looked somewhat artistic the way it was set up, so I decide to take pictures of the metal pieces and use it for my essay.

Queens, and a Saturday morning

This picture was taken was taken in Queens near Hook Creek, the reason I took this picture was because the spring time feeling it gave. I was just walking near where my dad was working and I notice the view and sun were very relaxing, so I thought of taking a picture because this was actually one of the best weathers we had for the past months. The picture gives off a relaxing and smooth feeling because you can tell that it was very quiet and everyone looked be home because of the park car and it was also was Saturday.

The NY Car / The Lady with the Leafless Tree Branch

The NY Car, March 15, 2014, Steve Mesa

The NY Car, March 15, 2014, Steve Mesa

I took this photo this past Saturday, on March 15, 2014 at Union Square while the cars were at a stoplight. The uniqueness of the car is what obviously made me pull out my Iphone and take a snapshot of it. Not only does the art on the car grab your attention, but its also the model of the car itself. Everything is changing as we develop more and more into the future, (even the taxi cab is looking more advanced than ever), which is why I can appreciate someone who drives this old school model car in the streets and add a little bit of “flavor” to it for whatever reason. I also find it amazing that the man in the car is looking at the road ahead, so casually doing his daily commute as if he’s unaware that he’s riding one of the most creative, and distinctive cars in the world. I love the message of this car because I “heart” NY as well, especially when I see moments like these.

I also took this photo this past Saturday, on March 15, 2014 at Union Square Park a couple hours after the car picture was taken. As I was walking around i couldn’t help but notice and feel the presence of this lady standing face to face with the sunlight. Theres so much emotion as she has her eyes closed holding that leafless tree branch as if it were her child. It’s really amazing how everyone around is so oblivious as they do their own thing; but this lady looks like she’s in her own world taking in all the life thats given to her in that very moment. As you see the Metronome in the upper right hand corner, you can’t help but to think of your life as its ending one second at a time, but if we were to not think about the past or the future and be more aware and focused in the present moment we could be more like this lady in having a peaceful state of mind.

Lonely Nights &Guiding Lights

March 18,2014 Brooklyn, New York (Broadway Junction)

This photo was taken on March 19,2014 in Brooklyn at Broadway Junction while waiting for the J train. I love the fact that i’m  standing in Brooklyn and i can see further into Brooklyn. All the lights coming from the street lights, cars and buildings. There isn’t any movement on the street , no pedestrians, just one car waiting at the stop light. This was a lonely night , i was the only one at the train station, i was looking at the buildings after i took this photo, i felt as if it was just me and the world out there. It was just a lonely night no noise from street, train noises,  people. It was a peaceful night

CIMG0341I took this picture today at Skyline on 9th Avenue. It was during my another class field trip, I found it intriguing that there’s railroad along sides. By looking at his picture, you probably won’t realize it’s in city right away because the railroad looks like it’s been abandoned but as you continue on reading it carefully you will see the the railroad its actually very new and there’s some tall and modem looking buildings in the back. It gives me a feeling of loneliness and emptiness because there’s grasses and plants are grown out all over the railroad as if no one goes there like a dismal place.

Screenshot_2014-03-19-21-36-31I took this picture the other day on March 10th. I was hanging out with my friend there, then I just took this picture to capture the relaxing moment that I had in such a normal day of my life. Sun was going to set, the sky was getting dark, the lights were lighting up, it’s like almost the end of the day and there were also people playing soccer doing the thing they like after a stressful and busy day, it’s a very relaxing view to me.

The taste of Asia

photo(1)

March 19 2014, Dawa Lama

I took this photo on February 17, 2014 near Suunyside, Queens. It was around 6:30p.m, when me along with my sister went for a dinner in one of the famous Korean restaurant around that place. We entered the room and the one of the host assigned a seats for both of us. Before we took our seats , all the arrangements were done. There were a menu on the table with long list of delightful food items. Besides that, all the chopsticks, spoons and forks were arranged neatly on the side of the menu. Then, we ordered different varieties of dishes such as, Korean pancake, kimchi jjiage: a spicy stew made with mainly kimchi, pork, and tofu, infused with spicy ingredients and spices. What is the best about Korean food is that, it came along with  the varieties of other sub-dishes like black soy with caramel, sea weed soup, sprout and so on. All the dishes had its own serving utensils. For example, for the stew dish, it is normally served in a stone pot, still boiling when it arrives at the table and for other small dishes, they use different shapes and sizes ceramic crockery. The atmosphere were great and relax, everyone were enjoying their meal and so I was. Mostly, the Korean food were spicy and used fresh ingredients. And there was one thing that I noticed the most, it was the same designed plate that my aunt used to have, which remind me of my childhood moment with her.

photo(2)

This Photo was taken on March 11, 2014 at Jackson Heights, Queens. It was during lunch time, around 1:00 p.m when I went to one of the thakali restaurant with my friend. It was a small room with dim lighting system and reflects a typical Nepali culture and cuisine. We had ordered a Nepali style platter, which consist of black lentils, three different types of curry, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian  such as spinach, green peas and potatoes, different meat item and two types of pickles with a plain white rice in the middle. They had presented their food in such a way that it looks totally unique from others. As we can see, all the curries and pickles were set aside in a circular way and rice ball is placed at the center, which gives a vibrant colorful touch to the plate. Likewise, all the cutleries and napkins were placed in their accurate location and makes the whole service table looks appealing and clean. I had excluded the right side of the table and focuses the front platter to give a clear vision of each ingredients. The atmosphere was pleasant and I had enjoyed my lunch thoroughly.

5th Avenue

On Friday, March 14th 2014, I was at a Midtown Loft celebrating the grand opening of Lala’s Pop Up Shop, I was almost leaving and loved how 5th Ave looked that night. It portrays a feeling of a busy life. It proves the quote “The city that never sleep’s,” true. It gives me a anxious feeling that everything keeps on going, time waits for no one. The busy ave with all the traffic, and car lights contrasting the black shadows of the City buildings.

Olive Garden

On March 7, 2014, I went out to eat with my Mother and Brother to Olive Garden, we we’re having wine, celebrating my brother getting back from Japan after not seeing him in 8 months, due to the fact that he’s in the Marines. Black and white filter. When I look at this image it makes me think about all my accomplishments me and my brother have accomplished thus far, and what we have yet to conquer.

The Finest Vessel

The Triborough Bridge, and The East.

The Triborough Bridge, and The East.

I choose this picture of a luxury cruise ship, because I see this as being the root of succession in my dream of having a franchise in every part of hospitality and management. The dominant impression of this photo is adventure, because cruise ships are known for the exotic places they travel to. Also the showing of the cruise ship going under the Triborough Bridge creates a frame that shows of the size of and beauty of the ship, river the Triborough Bridge, and the east. Recently I read an article in the travel section of the New York Times called 6 Trends in Cruising by Elian Glusac. Out of the six trends the two that I like the most is the far and away places and immersing in the destination. In my opinion I believe that those two trends truly captures the essence of what a cruise is really supposed to be. Far and away places because travelers in this day and age tend to want to get away from the place most familiar to the most unfamiliar to experience something new. Immersing in the Destination, because the adaptation of other cultures is a way for travelers to truly empathize and sympathize with people from around the world, while enjoying themselves and the scenery.

The Pioneer

Trump Tower 5th ave

This is a picture of the famous Trump Tower, mid-day on 5th avenue, Manhattan. For the frame of this photo I tried to get the side of the building, because I think that the levels on the side somewhat resembles steps, or a decorative spot for the building owner to put whatever they want up there. Also I tried to get the sign of the Gucci store in it. This building is one of many prestigious grand buildings that enhances the attractiveness of the famous shopping are of 5th avenue. The exterior of the trump tower is only but a glimpse of the beauty that has yet to be discovered on the inside. The dominant impression that structures such as Trump Tower gives me is motivation, because I wish that one day I could own my own establishment equal to, or more superior to that of the Trump Tower.
