Final Exam Details

Step 1: Complete the exam in WeBWorK.

  • The exam is named Take MAT 1375 FINAL EXAM test and will appear here: http://mathww.citytech.cuny.edu/webwork2/Exams_-_MAT1375-TTh
  • You will take the exam using your “Exam WeBWorK account.” The Exam WeBWorK account is the same account you used for the Practice Final Exam, it is NOT your usual WeBWorK homework account. You should have received an email sometime on or around Friday, 5/8/20, with the title Practice Exams and Final Exam Login Information from the address WeBWorK Administrator <webwork@citytech.cuny.edu>. This email contains your exam WeBWorK account login and password.
  • You will have a 48-hour window to start the exam, all day Wednesday and Thursday (from 12:00am Wednesday 5/20 through 11:59pm Thursday 5/21), and a 2-hour window to complete the exam once you start it. You can start the exam whenever you like during this period.
  • You will have 2 hours to complete the exam from the time you start it (WeBWorK will keep track of this for you – you must submit your answers within two hours of starting).
  • You can complete the exam TWICE if you wish, once on Wednesday and again 24 hours later on Thursday (a new version will be generated for you 24 hours after the first). The exam with the best score will be graded.
  • Please choose a time to complete the exam that provides you with the best opportunity to work uninterrupted.
  • You must complete each of the problems on paper and upload them to DropBox within 30 minutes of completing the exam (see Step 2).
  • When you complete the exam, enter your answers and submit them in WeBWorK.

Step 2: Upload your written work as a single pdf file to the link provided.

  • You must submit your written work within 30 minutes of completing the exam.
  • Your exam grade will be primarily based on your written work – so this step is essential!
  • Please take clear photographs of your written work (one photo per page).
  • You MUST combine all the photos into a single pdf file. If you need help with this, see the box “Tips for combining photos on various devices” below.
  • Upload the pdf file by clicking the following link: https://www.dropbox.com/request/lgBH8Pus6GsKalQO7GKI

Step 3: You’re done – great work! If you had any trouble carrying out the instructions above, please let me know SOONER rather than later (email is a great way: jreitz@citytech.cuny.edu).

Tips for combining photos in a pdf on various devices

There are many ways to convert photos to pdf documents – if you already have a method that works, great! If not, here are links to a few resources, by device type:

Note 1: Completing the exam will also mark your attendance for the day.

Note 2: Grades are due May 28th, although I hope to get them in sooner. When I post grades on CUNYFirst, I will also post more detailed grades on the OpenLab (so you can see you final score on the exam) – I will also post an announcement on the OpenLab to let you know when grades are available.

Note 3: You all have faced a tough road this semester! I regret we couldn’t spend more time face-to-face, but I’m glad I got to know you as much as I did. I’m proud of you.

Exam 2 Grades are posted

Hi everyone,

I’ve finished grading exam 2. This is our first “distance” exam, so I request your patience in navigating various technological hurdles – please read the following important messages before you check your grade!

  • This exam consisted of 6 problems, each worth 17 points (that means a perfect score would earn you a grade of 102 – a little bonus).
  • You can view your grade here on the OpenLab under Dashboard/OpenLab GradeBook (or look for the Gradebook widget on the right side of the screen)
  • In the gradebook you should see a little blue “comment” bubble next to your grade – this contains a link to your graded exam paper (pdf).
  • If your name does not appear in the OpenLab Gradebook, you need to register for the OpenLab and join the course! (then let me know, and I will add your grade information)
  • If you took the exam but did not receive a grade, please send me an email and we will track down the problem.

All the best,
Prof. Reitz

Academic Integrity

You are expected to complete the exam on your own, in the allotted time, without reference to any external websites, notes, people or other resources (you may use a graphing or scientific calculator).

Use of online problem-solving sites or advanced step-by-step calculators during the exam will be considered academic dishonesty and, if detected, will result in a failing grade or other penalties.

  • The exam is called Take Reitz Precalc Exam2 test and appears in the Homework Sets area (at the bottom).

  • Please choose a time to complete the exam that provides you with the best opportunity to work uninterrupted.
  • You must complete each of the problems on paper (see Step 2).
  • When you complete the exam, enter your answers and submit them in WeBWorK.

Step 2: Upload your written work as a single pdf file to the link provided.

  • You must submit your written work within 30 minutes of completing the exam.

Practice Exam is now available in WeBWorK

Hi everyone,

If you log into WeBWorK, you can find a practice exam/review (in preparation for our upcoming Exam #2) – it is titled “Take Reitz Precalc Practice Exam 2 test“. The exam will be available until Wednesday night 4/29 at midnight (the night before the exam).

It is designed to give you an idea of what the problems on the actual exam will look like. Unlike a real exam, you may take it as many times as you like (before the day of the actual exam), the system will allow repeated attempts at each problem, and the system will provide hints.

NOTE: On the actual exam, the problems may look slightly different than these – with more or fewer steps, and other modifications.

Don’t forget to also look at the Exam 2 Review Sheet. Please send me your questions, either by commenting here or by email.

Best of luck with your studies,
Prof. Reitz

Official Exam #2 next Thursday 4/30/20

Hi everyone! Our next official exam (“Exam #2” for those counting) will take place next week on Thursday.

EXAM REVIEW

I am limiting the amount of material on the exam – it will ONLY cover the material from Chapters 8-12 (polynomials and rational functions).

You can prepare for the exam in two ways:

1. A review sheet for the exam can be found here.

2.In addition, I will post a practice assignment on WeBWorK over the weekend. This is ONLY for practice – you can take it as many times as you like, but your scores will NOT count for anything. However, it will give you a feeling for the types of questions that might be on the exam.

exam format

On the actual exam day (next Thursday, 4/30), you will complete the following 2 steps, just like the Practice Exam last Tuesday:

Step 1: Complete the exam in WeBWorK (you will have 2 hours from when you start the exam).
Step 2: Submit your written work in pdf format, using a link that I provide (you will have 30 min from when you complete the exam in WeBWorK).

Good luck with your studies!

Practice Exam and Attendance today – 4/21/20

Hi everyone,

Today is our “test run” for the new exam-taking process. Please READ the instructions below, and COMPLETE all the steps. NOTE: This is not a ‘real’ exam, although it is required – it will not count towards your grade, but it will serve to record your attendance in today’s class. The primary purpose is to make sure everyone can successfully navigate the technology – WeBWorK, taking photos & combining them into a single pdf, uploading work. If you have any trouble with any of the steps, please reach out to me by email or on the OpenLab – let’s figure it out together!

Exam Instructions – (Exam opens at 10am)

Step 1: Complete the exam in WeBWorK.

  • The exam is called A Practice Exam about pets and appears in the Homework Sets area.
  • The exam will be available for just over 24 hours, from 10:00am Tuesday 4/21/20 through 11:40am Wednesday 4/22/20 – you can start the exam whenever you like during this period.
  • You will have 2 hours to complete the exam from the time you start it (WeBWorK will keep track of this for you – you must submit your answers within two hours of starting).
  • Please choose a time to complete the exam that provides you with the best opportunity to work uninterrupted.
  • You must complete each of the problems on paper (see Step 2) – this is not required for the practice exam – instead of written work, you will submit two pictures of your pets).
  • When you complete the exam, enter your answers and submit them in WeBWorK.

Step 2: Upload your written work as a single pdf file to the link provided (in the case of this practice exam, submit two pictures of your favorite pet/pets).

  • You must submit your written work within 30 minutes of completing the exam.
  • Please take clear photographs of your written work (one photo per page). For the practice exam, please take two photos of your favorite pet/pets – OR, if you don’t have pets or prefer not to share them, take photos of any item or location in your home that is helping you get through this difficult time).
  • Combine all the photos into a single pdf file. If you need help with this, see the box “Tips for combining photos on various devices” below.
  • Upload the pdf file by clicking the following link: https://www.dropbox.com/request/au96estQQDVxF7GnTqtz
