The Deaf

In the class we have discussed the power of speaking in literate cultures and non-literate cultures however we have failed to shed light on the deaf population. We have not mentioned the people whom are unable to hear and listen. We have to accredit their new modes of communication which is sign language. That should be recognized an important part of technology! What about the people who feel trapped in their minds who have never been able to express their feelings ever? I watched a video of a small tribe in Uganda with people who have never been able to communicate until now. The power of the mind and hands may truly be Man’s greatest tools. . .

I just wanted to share.

One Response to The Deaf

  1. Thanks for this post, Jodi. Very important, of course. Have you ever heard of Jean Dominique Bauby who wrote the book The Diving Bell and the Butterfly? He wrote the book by blinking his eyes! I remember when it came out in 1997. There was a film made of it 10 years later. He suffered from “locked in syndrome” after a stroke. Amazing what people can do.
