History Behind Ransomware

This section is about the history of ransomware, and how it affected organizations, companies, and schools globally. In order to learn more about ransomware, we have read several articles, books, and reports to find the root cause of ransomware. In late 1989th, Joseph Popp created the virus to encrypt the file names. In the early 21st century, modern ransomware was created to target people, corporations, governments, and organizations. The modern ransomware became a game-changer for hackers to target the people. After a few years, hackers started to ask for money from the victims to exchange for the data that had been encrypted by the virus. After a few years, hackers started to spread the virus all around the world, and it became a global problem.

According to the research, the USA is the most targeted country by a virus, Japan is a second, and the UK is a third. The reason why the USA is on top is that most big corporations, organizations, and people who work for important places are located in the USA. Therefore, people need to protect themself from the threat and attack. When people protect themself from the attack, at the same time corporations or organizations where they work, would be protected. This is because the virus spreads to people via email, and if people work for these corporations, more likely corporations would be targeted.
