Spring 2013 – MAT 1272 Statistics – Reitz
This course provides an introduction to statistical methods and statistical inference. Topics include descriptive statistics, random variables, distributions, sampling, estimation and inference, t-tests, chi-square tests and correlation. This hybrid will provide an overview of the basic principles in development from prenatal to adolescent. We will review trends in contemporary research on physical, intellectual, emotional, and social development from birth through adolescence and the impact of the interaction of these various aspects of development upon the individual as a whole. Major issues examined in this course include the relation of nature to nurture, of genes to environment, of the developing individual to the changing social context, and of mental health to school performance. We will begin with the history of developmental psychology, and research methodologies. We will discuss the contexts in which children live, with a particular focus on family, peers, and the larger cultural context. Then, we will examine physical, cognitive, and socio-emotional development, with consideration of the cultural context, and focusing within each on examples of current research.
My Projects
The Garden is a project that teaches students and faculty about the excitement and nuance of growing flowers and vegetables for the Culinary and Pastry labs at NYC College of Technology. We encourage involvement and volunteers from all departments at the college.
This is my final paper in my Child Development class. It entails all things associated with bullies and the bullied, as well as how it affects both parties in the future. In turn, the paper also reflects upon actions that can be taken to bring positive change into this generation and generations to come and the fight against bullying.
This is a research project for my Astronomy 1 class. It pertains to an Historical Observatory found in Eastern Long Island.
My Clubs
Spoons Across America Club is dedicated to helping spread culinary knowledge. Spreading that knowledge to our friends, families, students and children. We want to continue Spoons Across Americas mission of influencing healthy eating habits for children. Celebrating the connection to local farmers and the important tradition of sharing meals around the family table. Helping spread that mission we focus on fundraising and providing Volunteers for the Non-Profit organization to support our mission.
