SEVENTH JOURNAL ENTRY

The final project was creating a tri fold brochure. The original leaflet, though packed with tons of valuable information, my supervisor felt that it was a bit too bland and need more imagery and color ways to spice things up. The images used were manipulated hue wise to create a color theme more attractive to the viewer, also this color was added throughout the typography mainly the header the create the same effect aforementioned.

SIXTH JOURNAL ENTRY

Community Outreach was executed once again, however this time around it was in a regular slower paced environment and not a festival. Th e goal was to get 15 new volunteers and to collect donations. Later that day I returned to the office and was assigned the task of redesigning donation vouchers and also printing and preparing them. I also learned how to used a typewriter because all volunteer/member information is recorded in this method.

FIFTH JOURNAL ENTRY

Due to the extremely social and political ideals of the organization I was educated on issues taken place in the United States and neighboring countries such as Cuba and Venezuela. I was informed on how Venezuela’s Oil boom was deemed as threat to the US economy and the somewhat socialist method of operation in Venezuela. A Class on systemic organizing was also administered, it gives members a birds eye view on the organization’s goals, methods and how methods can be best executed using the resources at hand.

FOURTH JOURNAL ENTRY

Collective Endeavor is the name of the organization’s magazine. Lisa instructed me to make a few changes to a few pieces, the main task was to recreate a pillar that housed a few images. The other tasks was to restructure the thank you page and to incorporate all the logos and contact information from the companies involved in assisting Women’s Press Collective. Later on in the shift phoning was executed and we reached out to individuals who were unreachable or busy a few days earlier.

THIRD JOURNAL ENTRY

Community outreach is a fundamental part of Women’s Press Collective due to the fact that it is an all volunteer organization. On Sunday June 17th I accompanied my supervisor Lisa Daniel and another member to a parade in the south bronx where made contact with community and tried to persuade them to become members of the organization whilst informing them on the misinformation being published by wealth media power houses and how it affects the working class.

SECOND JOURNAL ENTRY

The second day of work I was presented to task of filing volunteer info gathered by the organization. Phoning was another task, it included persuading members of the organization and new volunteers to take part in upcoming events. The whole method of conversing was executed by following a specific pitch. The status of each call was recorded to remain abreast on which members agreed to volunteer and which volunteers should by contacted once again.

FIRST JOURNAL ENTRY

The first project I worked on at the Women’s Press Collective was the redesign and resizing of a book cover and spine.
The design process was very moderate time wise, however the client then asked for help restructuring the content within the book.
The table of contents was not difficult or time consuming to restructure, however the core content was really disorganized typographically. The process of changing the paragraph format and header was a extremely tedious experience due to the clients constant change in direction of the layout.
