Hilda Jara
Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Graphic design was my first step towards my goal of becoming a professional graphic designer. I do freelance on my spare time from being a student. HJ Graphics is the name of my home-based design agency. I am on the web and on social media. I have done many works but, the most prominent request is logo design.
In 2015, I did a career development program for the Center for Arts Education that has changed my life till today. Ever since I’ve been equipped with the right skills that will get me to be a successful art professional. This is what motivated me to begin my startup. From this program, I acquired my first internship with the Brooklyn Arts Council. I was the graphic designer for their education department. My responsibility was to create posters that will be set up in schools all over Brooklyn to advise the completion of their art workshops Ina culminating event. From being at BAC I realized that my skill set and knowledge amount to a profitable career.
Since than I have interned at 100 Hispanic Women National, Inc. a nonprofit organization that provides scholarships, mentoring and professional development to women in the Hispanic community. I interned for 1 year and a half learning about marketing and branding as their social media manager. I designed and curated posts for all three handles (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook). My time at 100 Hispanic Women has served to be very insightful as to how my career would look like in the future. Due to this opportunity, I am currently a Corporate Marketing Intern at Structure Tone.
I have been at Structure Tone for a little over 6 months now and I mostly work with the Senior Designer and Art Director on internal/external communications. I have worked on a photo guide book that explains to all the other marketing departments across the company how to take a good photo for sharing. I have developed my photography skills and can successfully put up and take down a shoot. I have assisted in taking multiple headshots and refining them in Photoshop. My most recent project is a video regarding my intern experience that I shot and edited myself to share with everyone how structure tone has helped me develop my skills.
