Information about California AVAs:
In CA there are three large AVAs, North Coast, Sierra Foothills and Central Coast. Within these AVAs are numerous sub AVAs. You will be provided with a list of Sub AVAs and will need to identify the AVA inwhich they are located. For example, you might get the AVA “NapaValley” you will need to answer that Nappa Valley is in the North Coast AVA.

Theres about 42 subregion AVAs in the North coast region and about 20 for central coast region I think thats alot.
