Using this article I was able to create a bond with the employees that I supervise during my internship at the Hyatt in Herald Square as a Housekeeping Supervisor. I was immediately trusted and respected by the housekeepers and houseman by respecting them as people and not as tools or objects. I interact with them as much as possible showing them I too am working hard with them to achieve our goal together as a team. Communication is key to successfully accomplish my duties. I make sure I stay in touch with everyone by asking if anything is needed , this assures them that I care for them and their well-being. Managing multiple people is no easy task but what has greatly helped me is the communication and organizational skills I have built in my 8 years of work experience. I move forward to build my professional experience more and more so I too could become a General Manager in the future.

Thanks Luis for this great article, and how so true it is that forging relationships with your associates is the most important aspect of being a leader.
Empathy and understanding while keeping steady to your core values and the ones set by management enhances company culture and productivity.
Empowering your team members and giving them the space to make decisions on their own with the responsibility it comes with can only have positive affects to the total workplace environment and its operations. Being honest and trusting them with information makes them take ownership and feel a member of the organization.
A manager follows procedures and checks that standards are implemented. A leader inspires and makes people willingly follow them.

This is such a good article. I agree with the article mention that like money, these things tend to be less powerful motivators for workers than in-job challenges, feeling of being a valuable part of a quality team, the purpose of the work, the opportunity to learn, and the opportunity to contribute. In my own opinion, the real managers in the hotel should have or actualize this three simple elements, learn how to smile all the time during the works , make the guests smile and your team members smile. Hotel’s team leaders or manager also should sincerely treasure everyone and believe in their potential, and try help every single employee actualize unsurpassed happiness in the work place.
