Research and proposal documentation.

With this project we began our research by using Google, Google Scholar and the Apple Store; to confirm if there were any application like the one we had in mind to do. The application we decided to do is a research tool; name we decided on is “DARTICLE” this will be a research tool that will consist of archives of all magazines and newspaper articles. We decided on this application because as college students, information for research or writing papers of this kind are not readily available with access straight to the point. For example, with a Google search there will be multiple results some not relevant to the topic at hand, therefore time will be spent filtering the results for the result/results that will correspond with what are researched.

Our process for Darticle included the use of Photoshop for the logo; the images used in the application are from a private database. We decided to use private images because public accessible images usually are of very poor quality and are restricted in content. Additionally, credit will have to be given if we were to use public images in our work and it sometimes becomes a task to search to the real photographer of the images to give credit to.

The development of our application began with the creation of a Google style research tool. The developer of the application wrote a programming code to create the application. The design ideas are consistent with our ideas of how we wanted the application to look like when in use. Our research tool is developed for using web and print archives of newspapers and magazines. Darticle, was designed using the same research filters that every researcher use during their inquest. Our application consist of archives content that are not presently available in a fashion where searching will produce specific information that is needed. For this application we used the following filters: Information Filter; Time Filter, Geographical Filter and grade of revelation filter.

Since this application will be used for educational purposes our reasons for it not being free is :

1. All advertisements must be education advertisement for example college advertisements, libraries advertisements and world wide educational information in the form of advertisement.

  1. Some of the archives or other databases requires financial donations or fixed fees to using the information or resources.
  2. The database must be maintained and maintenance cost money.

Users will be able to research information from the past to present relating to the topic of their choice. Students will have access to Darticle for a small fee for example from $1.00 to $3.00 monthly as a part of their tuition fee. Darticle can also be purchase by non students for a little more that what the students will pay.

Libraries can have all the information from this application for patrons use; more that the regular amount of information that are usually available online when looking for information will be available when using Darticle; users will have access to a substantial amount of information before they decide on purchasing the application. The reason for this is we do not think it will be fair for users to purchase this application if they cannot find information that is important or useful to them and with access to a substantial amount of information users can experience how Darticle works and the quantity and quality of information available without doing several searches.

This project made us realize the true importance of getting relevant information for research, writing papers or even entertainment without going through several search engines, websites and databases. We were pleasantly surprised that no application of this sort were available especially to students and libraries; since newspapers and magazines are very important sources of information that will provide useful information , especially to students. As students this type of application that you can download using your and have access to it on the go. This can also help with some the struggles of completing papers on time and spending a lot of time doing research , filtering from so many irrelevant information.
